1943-1949, President 1997-98.
Tony Poole comments 'I first became acquainted with John in 1943 when we were both choristers at Tewkesbury Abbey and then together at the Grammar School. From these beginnings our friendship grew to last 77 years.
After leaving school we both did National Service for two years. John was luckier than I managing to qualify for the RAF due to his A.T.C training with 785 squadron at school. Our early careers took us both into the Dowty Group, although in different Companies.
We met socially at skittles and Sunday Cricket. Later and after we had both settled down our families shared holidays in the Scilly Isles. J
ohn made so many friends, through his job in Public Relations, because of his sense of humour, his concern for others, and he always made others feel good. We met annually at his home on long weekends, prior to the OTS dinner.
In 23 years in his retirement I think he only missed 2019. He was proud of Tewkesbury, of the Abbey and most of all the Old School. He was a wonderful friend to me, a truly enduring friendship and I miss his wonderful company. God bless you John’.
